Open Music and Creative Manufacturing:  Duo & Quartet

Duo at 8:00 pm

     Ken Vandermark :: Reeds
     Nate Wooley :: Trumpet

Chicago saxophonist and composer Ken Vandermark, and New York trumpet stalwart Nate Wooley, have been operating in each other’s orbits for the past three years, having worked together with Paul Lytton, Joe Morris, Agusti Fernandez, and Terrie Ex.  For the first time, they strip all third parties away and work with each other’s iconoclastic compositional and improvisational vocabularies.  Taking their cues from the underappreciated work of John Carter and Bobby Bradford, Vandermark and Wooley work together to create an organic combination of jazz tradition, free improvisation, and modern composition in this new raw and intimate duo.

Quartet at 9:00 pm

     Laurence Cook :: Percussion
     Jacob William :: Bass
     Nate Wooley :: Trumpet
     Ken Vandermark :: Reeds

This Quartet is a one time project for this event only.  Laurence – the elder statesman of the group – and Jacob are local musicians playing on an international level – and they’ve played together many times.  Nate and Ken will have had their first gig – as the Duo – the night before in Connecticut; they’ll bring a unique collaborative energy to the stage.  Combining these four improvisers for this one set is sure to provide new sounds, intensity, and a memorable night for all.
